The Estate
Aline is an all round sporting estate ideal for family parties which can cater for beginners or experienced parties, and has much to offer people not interested in fishing or shooting. The highest mountain on the islands, Clisham, is nearby, a stiff climb but wonderful views.
The 16 ft Arran sea boat is available to guests at the lodge, and a larger sea boat, the 27 ft Targa, is available by separate arrangement. The Arran is suitable for exploring Loch Seaforth, dropping prawn pots, and visiting Seaforth Island. The Targa can take guests on further trips, to the Shiant islands and elsewhere along the coast of Harris.
Wildlife abounds at Aline, golden eagles, peregrines, merlins, sea eagles, snowy owls, puffins, divers, seals, otters, dolphins and whales all may be spotted, sometimes from the Lodge, sometimes from one of the sea boats. The beaches of Lewis and Harris are a wonderful well-kept secret, and although they are an hour or so away, they are often empty and make a fantastic family outing.
Aline Estate has a lodge for 10 which is let fully catered. Please note fully catered includes breakfast, packed lunch, afternoon tea and supper. Not Drinks. The housekeeper is not included for self catered lets. Please see the Rental Rates for more details.
The 18th century lodge has five double or twin bedrooms and provides comfortable accommodation for 10. The newly-built sunroom gives fabulous views in three directions, while the billiards room and nearby sauna complex (with table tennis) offer great entertainment in the evening.
Hard work has also been done over the past couple years to restore and extend the charming gardens behind Aline Lodge. These can be particularly enjoyed from the three bedrooms at the back of the house.
Set on the shore of Loch Seaforth, only a stone’s throw from the sea, the newly-refurbished Tarbert Cottage offers comfortable accommodation for up to six people in 3 double bedrooms. In addition there are two full baths, a sitting room/dining room (with TV/DVD) and fully-equipped kitchen and wood-burning stove.
Seaforth Cottage possesses one of the finest views on the estate. Set on an isolated promontory overlooking Loch Seaforth, its view encompasses Mount Clisham, the tallest mountain in the Outer Hebrides, to the south and the Eishken hills to the north. It offers accommodation for four people, spread over one bedroom and one living room/kitchen which includes a pull-out couch. There is also one full bath. Both rooms take full advantage of the surrounding scenery, and have a cosy, rustic feel. A veranda to the front of the cottage is perched just above the rocky shore.
Aline Estate offers salmon & trout fishing, stalking, walked-up grouse, snipe & woodcock in season. Sea trips by boat are also available (maximum 7 passengers) inside Loch Seaforth and guided walks through the Estate.
The Fishing
There are three main systems on the estate. Loch Langavat, about 9 miles long, is the headwater of the Grimersta system and provides salmon, brown trout, ferox and arctic char from the estate boats. Ferox trout of over 10lbs have been caught and trout of up to 5lb's are caught in the loch.
The Tiorsdam system consists of a small river and a loch which offer exciting fishing from July with good water.
The Scaladale is a picturesque river which can offer excellent salmon and sea trout fishing in spate conditions.
Numerous little hill lochs offer a choice between a few large trout (up to 4lbs) or a plethora of small ones ideal for a family outing. Our sea boat can take up to 8 people sea fishing for mackerel, codling or skate and the chance of seeing seals, whales or dolphins makes these outings more interesting.
The Shooting
Walked-up grouse and snipe over pointers commences in September; driven woodcock are available from November onwards. Three day shooting weekends make an ideal winter break.
Snipe shooting is available from October onwards. Snipe will generally be found by streams, ponds and similar wet areas scattered throughout the moorland.
Duck shooting on our several flight ponds can be exciting in the evening with good winds. The occasional geese fly over as well.
The Stalking
Red deer stalking is available on the estate with the main stalking period in September or October although earlier stags may be found in the forestry.
Aline is an all round sporting estate ideal for family parties which can cater for beginners or experienced parties, and has much to offer people not interested in fishing or shooting.
